Ford drops the list: 2027 hypercar roster revealed ahead of title charge

Ford is entering the Hypercar class with maximum intent, building a plug and play roster tailored for immediate championship success. Placing a heavily funded, factory backed American effort on the grid pits the “blue oval” directly against modern giants like Ferrari and Toyota. The calibre of this driver line up serves notice to the paddock that Ford is not joining simply to participate – they expect to fight for the step of the podium immediately.

Ford’s entry into the Hypercar class marks the official return of the “blue oval” to the highest level of international endurance racing for the first time in almost six decades. Their history in top flight prototype racing is defined by its legendary 1960s campaign which culminated in the historic overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Rather than operating through customer teams, this factory effort serves as the absolute flagship element of the newly unified Ford Racing organisation. It represents a highly concentrated push to re-establish the American brand as a dominant force against global automotive giants.

Tom Blonqvist, Ford Racing factory driver on honouring the legacy of the “blue oval.”

To be part of the project from outset, help shape its development and work toward the shared goal of bringing Ford back to the top step of the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is very special.”

This matters because it highlights that Ford’s drivers are being utilised as active engineering assets rather than just hired racers, directly shaping a brand new vehicle’s development from the ground up. Furthermore, it shifts the narrative of the program from a routine corporate entry to a high stakes, legacy driven mission aimed at reclaiming Ford’s historic overall dominance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The roster structure proves that Ford’s unified corporate motorsport strategy is highly functional. Before being handed the keys to the multi-million dollar hypercar program, drivers like Logan Sargeant were embedded with customer operations to race the Mustang GT3 in WEC (World Endurance Championship). This multi-tier blueprint allowed drivers to adjust to the specific rule sets, complex multi-class traffic management and distinct sporting procedures of the WEC paddock long before stepping into a high downforce, high stakes factory prototype.

By pulling away Matt Campbell from a highly successful decade long Porsche affiliation and sweeping up Acura’s top prototype stars, Ford has put immense pressure on its engineering department. Global Director Mark Rushbrook publicly stated that this line up is built entirely to “fight for overall victory,” removing any fall back excuses about being a “new team needing time to learn.” The ultimate consequence is that the entire hypercar grid must treat Ford as an immediate, fully realised threat from the very first green flag of the 2027 season, rather than an unrefined newcomer.
