Haas unleashes its monster: A Godzilla livery that finally gives the team some bite
In a move that set the Suzuka paddock roaring, the TGR Haas Formula One (F1) Team has unveiled a spectacular special livery for the 2026 Japanese Grand Prix. This isn’t just a sponsor sticker: it is the first ever entertainment IP collaboration in the team’s history, born from a groundbreaking partnership with Toho Co Ltd. The reveal, held at Tokyo Hibiya, signals a new era of “monster” ambition for the team which is currently enjoying a surprise run in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship. While maintaining Haas’s signature white, black and red palette, the livery features a massive, stylised Godzilla integrated into the engine cover as well as side pods. The design depicts the monster’s iconic silhouette, compared with dorsal fins and an “atomic breath” motif that flows toward the rear of the car. Drivers Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman will sport bespoke race suits along with helmets featuring the monster’s texture as well as claws, fully embracing the “indomitable spirit” that Ayao Komatsu says defines the squad’s 2026 campaign.
The standout feature is Godzilla’s silhouette on the engine cover with his “atomic breath” visually “fuelling” the car by flowing directly into the side pod and toward the rear exhaust. This is the first major activation since Haas rebranded to TGR Haas F1 Team. It serves as a bridge between the American team and its new Japanese technical partner, Toyota Gazoo Racing using a Japanese icon to solidify the bond. Uniquely, this isn’t a one off. The “Japanese” Godzilla debuts at Suzuka but a second evolved livery is already confirmed for the United States Grand Prix in Austin to promote the US premiere of Godzilla Minus Zero.
Insiders and analysts have noted that this collaboration is a direct result of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) partnership. Journalists from Motorsport.com and PlanetF1 are calling this the “perfect branding match.” Since Haas is currently outperforming giants like Red Bull and Aston Martin in the 2026 standings, the “Godzilla” metaphor is being widely adopted by the media. Some analysts expressed surprise at how “subtle” the integration was, expecting a more garnish design. Instead, the “integrated branding” approach has been praised for looking like a factory designed special rather than a movie poster slapped on a car.
It could be argued that the Haas “Haaszilla” launch is the absolute winner of the 2026 Suzuka “special livery war.” There is something incredibly poetic about the smallest team on the grid partnering with the biggest monster in cinema history. At a time when they are actually beating “giants” like Red Bull and Aston Martin in the standings, this isn’t just a film tie in its a statement of intent. The best part of this livery is that it doesn’t ruin the car’s base identity. By keeping the red, white and black “TGR” colours but integrating the monster’s atomic blue breath along with dorsal fins, it feels like a factory designed special rather than a cheap promotional wrap.
