Claude joins the grid: Williams sign AI giant Anthropic in blockbuster multi-year deal
Atlassian Williams Formula One (F1) Team along with Anthropic, the AI research company behind Claude, a frontier-level AI model known for reasoning and safety. Have announced a multi-year partnership in which Claude will be integrated across the entire Williams organisation supporting race strategy, car development, engineering workflows in addition to operations and decision making. As Claude branding will appear on the 2026 Williams car, driver suits and team kit.
F1 is entering its biggest regulatory overhaul in a generation in 2026. Williams sees Claude as a tool to improve clarity decision making, analyse complex data faster, challenge assumptions along with support engineers under pressure.
James Vowles, Team Principal Atlassian Williams F1 Team said: “At a time when our team is on a journey to the front, this partnership is an opportunity for us to show what’s possible when you combine elite human talent with the right frontier models.”
Anthropic gains its first major sports partnership, showcasing AI’s role in elite performance environments.
Williams has built nine Constructors’ Championships on ingenuity and innovation – finding crucial milliseconds that deliver results on track. Like Anthropic, they started as outsiders who believe thinking differently is the key to winning.
Mike Krieger, Co-Led of Anthropic Labs added: “Formula One is ultimately about the pairing of human endeavour and technical excellence. I’ve watched Atlassian Williams F1 team find ways to punch above their weight for years, that’s exactly the kind of team Claude is built for.”
As one of F1’s few remaining independent teams that resourcefulness remains central to how they compete.
Andre Stirk, Head of Brand Marketing at Anthropic added: “We chose Atlassian Williams F1 Team because they’re one of F1’s last truly independent teams – they compete on the quality of their thinking and their attention to detail … They are world class problem solvers, focused on the smallest details, that’s the same drive that animates Anthropic.”
Now, Williams is thinking with Claude as the team enters 2026 with a clear ambition: to take the next step towards returning to the front of the grid.
