Cadillac stuns the paddock! Zhou Guanyu joins star studded line up as 2026 reserve driver

 



Cadillac Formula One (F1) Team have announced that Zhou Guanyu is the team’s reserve driver alongside Colton Herta for the 2026 F1 season. Zhou’s role as reserve driver begins ahead of the team’s F1 debut at the Australian Grand Prix (6 – 8 March). Highlighting Cadillac’s structure, operations and backing from TWG Motorsports as well as General Motors as Zhou’s prior experience which includes work Ferrari plus racing for Alfa Romeo/Kick Sauber will prove vital for the team’s debut.


Zhou was selected by Cadillac as he brings recent F1 race experience along with strong technical and simulator background, including Ferrari TPC work in 2025.

Zhou Guanyu, 2026 Cadillac Reserve Driver said: “I am delighted to join the Cadillac Formula One Team as a Reserve Driver ahead of its Formula One debut. This is one of the biggest and most exciting new projects that the sport has ever seen.”

With proven team work and development skills in addition to existing relationships with Bottas along with Lowdon. The team sees him as a valuable asset for car development and race weekend support as they build from the ground up for their first season.


The 26 year old also brings valuable experience from his time with Scuderia Ferrari which will supply Cadillac’s team with its power unit and gearbox in 2026.

Graeme Lowdon, Cadillac Team Principal said: “We wanted a candidate who had recent F1 driving experience, is prepared to work hard as part of a team and understands the challenges of developing a car throughout the season.”

Dan Towriss, Cadillac CEO said: “He will be an excellent addition to complement Valterri and Checo, talented, personable and respectable of the hard work and commitment it will take for us to achieve our ambitions.”

Completing various track side, simulator and Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) programs for the Italian marque in 2025 as reserve driver, acquiring relevant as well as recent experience ahead of Zhou’s new role with the Cadillac team.
