Browning hits the big time! Williams hands rising Brit Abu Dhabi FP1 return in 2025
Luke Browning, 23 year old Formula Two (F2) and member of the Williams Racing Driver Academy. Have announced that he will take the seat usually occupied by Alex Albon in FP1 at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Browning he will also take part in the end of season Young Driver Test, driving the Williams FW47 further continuing his progression from academy driver to potential future Formula One (F1) contender.
Williams is committed to developing young talent through its Driver Academy and Browning’s strong record which includes GB3 (2022), Macau GP winner (2023), FIA Formula Three (F3) podiums as well as current F2 title contender earned him this opportunity.
Luke Browning, Atlassian Williams Academy Driver, said: “It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend in Abu Dhabi fighting for the F2 title while getting back behind the wheel of the FW47 and it’s a challenge I’m going to relish.”
The test provides valuable experience, feedback and preparation for 2026 while showcasing Williams’ investment in future drivers.
As part of the Williams Racing Driver Academy’s proud tradition of giving young talent a path into F1, Browning has regularly driven in the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) and simulator programmes with the aim of preparing him for the future.
Sven Smeets, Sporting Director at Atlassian Williams Racing, commented: “These final sessions of the season will give Luke another valuable chance to learn from Alex and Carlos, the wider team and further embed with our track side operation as he looks towards a bright future.”
He has balanced this with a success FIA F2 campaign, currently occupying third position in the standings and going into the final two races of the season in a fierce battle for the title.
