Aston Martin Aramco restructures leadership as Adrian Newey named Team Principal for 2026
Aston Martin Aramco Formula One (F1) Team have announced a leadership restructure designed to prepare Aston Martin for the 2026 F1 regulations. With Adrian Newey taking on the role of Team Principal guiding the technical team and track side operations. Hoping that the changes aiming to strengthen Aston Martin’s transition into a full works team.
Ensuring Aston Martin is best positioned for success under the 2026 regulations which bring the biggest changes in a generation.
Adrian Newey, Managing Technical Partner said:” I’m looking forward to taking on this additional role as we put ourselves in the best possible position to compete in 2026.”
The restructure leverages Newey’s creative and technical expertise plus Andy Cowell’s power unit expertise aiming to maximise collective strengths.
With the goal to establish Aston Martin as a competitive works team in the new era of F1.
Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman of Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team said: “I’m also pleased that Adrian Newey will step into the Team Principal role which will enable him to make full use of his creative and technical expertise.”
The strategic change is designed to ensure the leadership team is well prepared to play its collective strengths in 2026.
The 2026 season brings the biggest changes to F1 in a generation with new technical regulations and an additional regulations as well as an additional team on the grid.
Andy Cowell, Team Principal at Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team said: “Having implemented much needed structural changes as we transition to a full works team and set the foundations for Adrain and the wider organisation, it is an appropriate time for me to take a different role as Chief Strategy Officer.”
Given his unparalleled experience and expertise in working on power units, Cowell will help optimise the technical partnerships between the team, Honda, Aramco and Valvoline in addition to working closely with the team’s partners to ensure the seamless integration of the team’s new power unit, fuel plus chassis.
