Mercedes confirm Russell and Antonelli for 2026: A new era begins at Brackley

 


George Russell, current Mercedes driver and Kimi Antonelli, rising star from the Mercedes Junior Programme. Have been officially announced as the driver pairing for the 2026 Formula One (F1) season marking a new era for Mercedes ahead of the final flyaway races of the season. Building a future focused line up blending Russell’s experience with Antonelli’s youth and potential, following Lewis Hamilton’s departure in addition to Mercedes’ long-term commitment to nurturing home grown talent.


Across the FIA F1 World Championship with Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team competing globally from its base in Brackley, UK.

Toto Wolff, CEO & Team Principal of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, said: “George and Kimi have proved a strong pairing and we’re excited to continue our journey together.”

Both are graduates of the team’s junior system having joined the programme in 2017 and 2019 respectively.


Multiple Grand Prix winner Russell, heads into his eighth season in F1 whilst Antonelli continues into his second year.

George Russell, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team Driver, said: “We are all incredibly focused on making that a success and, for me personally, building on what has been strongest season in F1 to date.”

Russell claimed the GP3 and F2 titles en route to F1 and following three years at Williams has won five races since stepping up to a race seat with the works Mercedes team.

Antonelli, Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team Driver, said: “I’ve learnt so much in my first season in F1, both in the good moments and the more challenging ones. Those have all made me stronger, not only as a driver but as a team mate too.”

Antonelli meanwhile secured multiple F4 championships, the Formula Regional title and race wins in F2 before making his debut at the start of this year.
